I
am currently a volunteer, one day a week, at the SouthtonSmallholding at the Bield Blackruthven. Its environment is extended
to people who have experienced long-term unemployment through
learning disabilities by offering supported employment in a
smallholding setting - growing herbs and vegetables on organic
principles and keeping hens, ducks, geese and sheep. Produce is sold
via a box scheme maintained by the smallholding team. Work includes
gardening, tending animals, innovating from recycled materials,
craft-making etc.
