On the subject of Emerging Church/newer expressions of church: I was just wondering most of these "style" of churches I see happening in towns & cities - does anybody know of any that are happening & working and growing by the Spirit in a rural setting - be it here in Highlands /Scotland elsewhere.

Tapestry Faith Community is a new expression of church, and if you class Dingwall and Strath as rural then this is one certainly working and growing in the Spirit. Feel free to come experience it sometime :)

Dave, any others you know of in a rural setting be it up in Scotland or down South in a rural setting.

The main contacts I have are in Edinburgh and Glasgow, it seems to be wherever young people (18-40) gather, normally cities. I know Inverness Christian Fellowship are leaning towards 'emergent' but I have my fears that this may be a case of trying to 'catch a wave'...but I could be wrong.

From my experience (limited) at places like Lairg, Bonar, Rogart, Durness etc, it would be futile to try and change or introduce something that is not going to be understood by the community who live there.

It really does not mater what we do, for if we do not do the following then it is all straw blowing in the wind...

By the way you should recognise these words...

Our churches are dying - even for all that we try new ideas etc! We need to wait upon God to seek his will - in fact we need to get on our knees! Then once we have conversed with Him, we need to converse with one another and be prepared to submit to God and one another.

Wiser words I cannot find, no gimmicks, no 'new' things, just plain old seeking God and loving one another.

Dave,
We do need to seek to God. My comments that you have quoted from above are an observation of scottish churches in general.
I agree with your comments re Lairg, Durness etc. This was my suspicion and was just wondering out of pure interest such a style would work in these rural communities.
Again work in rural area to urban needs to birthed by the Spirit.

Anybody who havent seen these comments are from the post on my blog Vision by prayer and can follow it here:

Dont forget that there are many of the moving population who are now based in the Highlands who are looking for an alternative style of worship.

So if the momentum was there a non presbyterian worship couild be possible.

Sooner than we think?
